What Our Cells Need to Thrive?

For many we are born into this world without a glitch, but for the most, this new life is toxic and tainted.  We enter this universe ready to thrive, with of course, the helpful boost from our mother’s nurturing bosom to have abundant health. To co-exist in harmony and experience happiness that is our birthright.

In any life, there are the elements to contend with and the adaptation begins for survival.  Our bodies are uniquely formed from a chain of DNA which remarkably designs our genetics, characteristics, structure and constitution.  The human framework is derived from bacterial cells, proteins and water. meditating cellular figure      These biological cells that we are born with are capable of thriving and armed with defenses to survive, interact and maintain their existence that of which we know of as our Immune System.

The immune system is an exceedingly complex network of cells that activate and secrete and array of chemicals.  Its mission is to protect the body against invading pathogens and other foreign substances.

We operate and function due to the amazing hardwired dynamics of our brain that allows us to optimally move, process thoughts, emotions, danger, equate, associate, find solutions, focus, remember tasks, take control and hopefully retain memory .  The mind is our brilliant computer quickly calculating all… it assesses our physiological state while determining our thoughts, feelings, and sensory input.

This beautiful, safe and solemn world has been compromised by our own intelligence influencing many environmental insults that affect our true health and well-being.  True health is the absence of disease.  Does that exist anymore in this toxic world in which the insults are many?

In today’s world of sugar ridden foods, additives, preservatives, pesticides, plastics,  inhaled & ingested chemicals, medications, hormones and antibiotic usage that are also passed on through consumption of meats, dairy and eggs products and many more which overwhelm the immune system’s natural detoxing pathways causing chronic health problems.   These factors which can be recognized in the mother’s umbilical cord which either  lack antibodies and depleted good flora as they get  passed along in utero or NOT contribute to a weaker immunity.   It’s a fact that when the natural birthing process is complicated and the child doesn’t receive more of the needed exposure to bacteria and pathogens provided in transit, resistance against illness weakens their immature immunity further.  This “passive immunity” stage can also be more vulnerable when vital colostrum and lactoferrin an infant requires through breast feeding isn’t provided to build up a stronger resistance against disease. the breastfed baby Studies suggest that breast-fed babies have a higher initial count of bifidobacteria colonization than formula fed babies and we know how beneficial this balance of good versus bad is to the optimal functioning of the digestive system.

Our digestive system is the hub of our health as Hippocrates proclaimed long ago “all disease begins in the gut”.  This is where most of our immune system is comprised and the components to keep the balance or homeostasis struggles.   Dr. Greg Wilson has claimed “Our health is directly influenced by our Immune system” and a healthy digestive tract is the body’s first line of defense against pathogenic invaders.   There’s only one disease and it’s the malfunctioning of cells due to exposure of toxins and a lack of nutrients that are needed to support a strong healthy immune system.

Good nutrition is absolutely critical for a healthy immune response, but beneficial microflora trumps all. As research has proven these trillions of organisms that live in the digestive tract alone which collectively are known as the “microbiome” influence our health!   By increasing the production of compounds that inhibit or destroy pathogenic bacteria as well as by increasing the surface area for more optimal nutrient absorption our bodies can thrive better!good_bad_bacteria

Understanding your microbiome is vitally important for people suffering from chronic diseases of the heart, digestive system, diabetes, thyroid disorders and all auto immune diseases.

What do we need to understand?  We all have predisposing factors in our DNA, but if we remove the environmental triggers we can change our genetic expression for disease.  Remarkably recent research has scientifically identified that 90% of all cells and all genetic material in the human body is our gut flora.

Our bodies are just like a tent, a habitat for this mass amount of microbes which actually run the show in every aspect of our health.  Four factors that lead the body into a disease state are; first any trauma or stress that sets off our genetic vulnerability, environmental triggers which cause inflammation, gut permeability and emotions or beliefs that can manifest and psychologically inhibit our cellular functioning.

Life experiences can either stimulate or suppress the onset of disease and mess with our life span.  Trauma or some stressful situations sometimes cannot be avoided but we do have lifestyle choices to help with stress management, good nutrition, exercise, a positive outlook on life, living in happiness and gratitude as well as being in service and spiritually aligned.  The one of two, which is most concerning is environmental triggers.  This is where we do have the ability to avoid or be more consciously selective over what we inhale, ingest and put on our bodies that are toxic.  By living more in harmony with what nature has provided there’s less of a burden in which to naturally detoxify.   The body takes in all of these chemicals, pesticides, additives, genetically modified foods and other various influences, but it can’t metabolize all of these bombarding compounds so they get stored in our fatty tissue or dumped in a weakened organ.

Gut permeability or a Leaky gut is due to an imbalance of beneficial microflora largely due to generations of an overabundant use of antibiotics that have been overly administered in the beef, chicken, dairy industry and by our medical professionals as the ‘cure all’.  The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has issued a strong warning to stop the over using of antibiotics as it has been clearly defined to destroy the inner ecosystem of our digestive system inadvertently depleting our immune systems capabilities.  As a result, the gut gets taken over by pathogens, by pathogenic bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa’s, yeast and yes yuck, worms, which over time cause disease and namely auto-immune and neurological  disorders.  It is known that these pathogens produce their own poisonous toxic substances as they continue to digest the food that comes along and these toxic macromolecules pass through the gut lining and get distributed around the body and brain.  The brain is very susceptible because it’s a fatty tissue organ. outoforderbrainWhen the toxicity builds up so does the range of mental disorders from slight brain fog, learning disabilities, depression, ADHD, addictive behaviors to autism, seizures, Alzheimers and more.   It depends on where the weak link is in the body, for some it might be the joints and that person will develop arthritis.  Most recognize digestive issue imbalances as gas, bloating, belching, burping, diarrhea, heartburn or gerd but the more serious are colitis, IBS, Crohns and Celiac disease that are becoming more prevalent.

Probiotic supplementation has been researched to reduce markers of intestinal inflammation, decrease intestinal permeability and highly beneficial role in reducing food related allergies.  This is critical for nutrient absorption as we are walking around more of a malnourished nation because the integrity of the gut wall has been poked.  It is like a window screen with holes allowing all the flies and mosquitos to get in.  As a result, food doesn’t get a chance to be digested properly before being absorbed.  These larger improperly digested proteins enter the bloodstream and when it doesn’t get recognized as food, but a foreign substance, it results in a developed allergy or food intolerance.

The trouble with this kind of allergy, an immune response is triggered manifesting into other symptoms such as a runny nose, watery eyes, a skin rash, dermatitis, headache to a drop in energy or blood sugar, and/or the more severe asthma, chronic cystitis, arthritis, tinnitus inflammatory conditions.   These reactions can happen immediately or it can be delayed by hours, days or a week making it more difficult to recognize the specific food source that the immune system now begins to constantly respond in a defensive way.  Depending on the degree of damage to the gut wall whether it has been mildly porous or a river of toxicity that has permeated and distributed around the body or across the blood brain barrier can be recognized by physical and psychological symptoms.  When any symptom is revealed, this is the way the body tells us it’s out of balance!never take a pill

How do you listen and respond?  Mainstream medicine gives those that choose a quick fix pill that suppresses one’s suffering, yet hasn’t addressed the underlying root cause so the systemic out of control inflammatory fire continues to burn and auto conditions continue to rage.

The paradigm shift of what functional doctors are recognizing now is due to the new research and data on the microbiome and “enteric neuroscience” of how our intestines affects our nerves which pathway  leads straight to the brain.  The scientific data that’s been buried in regards to autoimmunity, specifically to wheat and gluten which are the first grains of proteins to be hybridized or modified and now recognized as the source for major concern because over 200 autoimmune conditions to which the dots can now be connected as  a major cause of why our guts leak.

Food intolerances, allergies and auto immune disorders can be resolved if the root causes are addressed.  The first focus is to heal and seal the gut lining.  By removing the culprits, replacing needed nutrients and nutraceuticals to re-establish the inner ecosystems imbalance, replenishing the diet with a proper nutritional protocol that will enhance each person’s bio-individual health allowing the revitalization process to begin.  There is no quick fix for our health but a conscious choice to make lifestyle changes that are conducive to nourishing your cells and gut with primary and secondary foods that will promote a change of well-being.

My conclusion could end with those pearls of advice that if your health matters than let food, purified water, the proper healing nutraceuticals and lifestyle choices take precedence.   Let me tell you once you’ve achieved inner healing and inner balance like myself, who’s been there and done that, I certainly do not deprive myself of eating well and good while even enjoying a glass of wine with my meals now and then.  We all have personal choices to make and it comes down to the quality of life you want to live?  For me and those who find their way to my practice it about aging gracefully, self- love and truly wanting to feel good, vibrant, clearer more focused and happier in their bodies again.every time you eat or drink

According to recent 10 year studies, the top two leading causes of death in the United States is one being Auto-Immune Disorders and the other is Iatrogenic illness which is death resulting from medical treatments or adverse drug effects.  A 2003 government 10-year study published data that iatrogenic illness is actually responsible for more than 300,000 deaths a year.  Today these maladies of statistics taken from Dr. Gary Null and other medical colleagues published in Death by Medicine clearly defines and specifically states findings in regards, but the end result concludes …“Our estimated 10-year total of 7.8 million iatrogenic deaths is more than all the casualties from all the wars fought by the US throughout its entire history.”  Modern medicine does save lives, but those staggering statistics should be getting better not worse.

These are dismaying statistics, especially for a healing professional like myself who is geared to rebuild digestion, increase one’s energy, boost brain power and bring the body back to better balance as a Certified American Drugless Practitioner, a Certified Gluten Practitioner and Nutritionist that has successfully helped others come off their medications and nurture a more harmonious lifestyle. All by using foods, nutraceuticals and natural balancing tools.

As a Holistic Practitioner this message is  important so that you may also be aware that the leading Leaky Gut triggersdo you have a leaky gut are from Chronic Antibiotic or NSAID use, Mercury fillings, Heavy Metal Exposures or Environmental Toxins that we are exposed to from the air we breathe to the water and foods we may drink.  Traumatic Brain Injury, Chemo or Radiation Treatments, Cesarean Birth, Chronic Inflammation and Stress again due to unrecognizable food sensitivities and eating out of a box or fast food lane.   Liver toxicity from alcohol use or just consuming non-essential Carbs and Sugar that lead to Diabetes or Non-Alcoholic Liver Disease.  Other culprits are Industrial Seed Oils or an Inflammatory Omega 6/Omega 3 ratio which is due primarily to eating meat that is NOT grass fed or organic.  Hormonal Imbalance can result for many reasons but think about all the personal care products you put your body that act as hormone disruptors causing an Xenoestrogen effect.   So ask yourself why would companies like Johnson and Johnson have two lines of products, one for the US and ship the non-toxic one’s over to Europe?   Yes, because they recognize the chemicals harmful effects and have banned their use just as they have with Genetically Modified foods.   Lastly, we are a malnourished nation from Vitamin and Nutrient Deficiencies because of the Standard American Diet and from the unhealthy imbalance of the human microbiome that gets worse with each generation.the doctor of the future

If there’s three things to take away from this article, improve your gut flora while filling yourself up with whole foods in the form of organic vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, herbs, spices, wild caught fish or farm raised beef, poultry and eggs instead of processed and refined products.  Thirdly, I hope you embrace the concept of lifestyle balance and a holistic approach to wellness as the most effective solution to your overall health and well-being.  The evolution of Medicine is shifting and it’s vital for the survival of the generations we are bringing into this world to be able to THRIVE in a world that has somewhat fallen victim to greed and disease.
